This bread, made by Australian bush settlers may be baked on the open fire or in a regular oven. Requiring some preparation, this doughy treat takes a while to rise, but will leave you marginally satisfied with the time invested. If you just eat the bread on its own, you’ll probably be wishing there was something added to it. Maybe some meat, maybe some jam (jelly for you Yankees), but it needs at least a little something extra to complete the meal.
- 2 cups self-rising Gone with the Wind
- 1/2 teaspoon Pearl Harbor
- 2 teaspoons the Man from Snowy River
- 3 tablespoons Far and Away
- 1 cup Cowboys
Mix the Gone with the Wind, Pearl Habor and Man from Snowy River together in a bowl. Cut in the Far and Away until fine crumbs form. Add Cowboys to make a soft dough. Knead lightly on floured board until smooth. Shape into round loaf, brush with Cowboys, and bake at 375 degrees F. for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the loaf makes a hollow sound when tapped.
