Frost-ed/Nixon Cookies

This is the actual recipe inspired by Frost/Nixon for our series of 2009 Oscar party dishes.Frost-ed/Nixon Cookies

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Black icing

Allow butter to soften then use a mixer to blend it with with sugar.  Once it is uniformly mixed, beat in the egg and vanilla.  Next, slowly add in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

For the simpletons:  Round cookie

After everything is thoroughly mixed, roll spoonfuls of dough into balls and place on a cookie sheet.  Then flatten using the bottom of a glass or something similar.  Be sure to leave at least 1 inch between cookies.  Bake in the oven at 375 degrees for about 9 minutes.  Allow to cool, then decorate with icing to resemble Richard Nixon, as seen on the right side of the picture.

For the more adventurous:  Nixon shaped cookie

After everything is thoroughly mixed, remove the dough from the mixer and allow to chill for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator wrapped in wax paper.  While the dough is chilling, make a homemade cookie cutter in the shape of Richard Nixon.  Once finished, remove about half of the dough and roll out on a floured counter until it is approximately 1/4 inch thick.  Using your recently fashioned cookie cutter, cut out cookies and place at least 1 inch apart on a cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 degrees for 9 minutes then accentuate your cookie with features akin to those of Richard Nixon, as seen on the left side of the photo once they have cooled.

Makes approximately 3 dozen cookies
