Movie Recipes

This is the actual recipe inspired by Up our series of 2010 Oscar Party Dishes.

You may not have your Wilderness Explorer badge for cooking yet, so here’s a simple recipe for potato skins with a dollop of garlic herbed sour cream that will earn you your badge. Maybe you can take some to that elderly man you’ve been trying to help.

• 3 large baking potatoes
• bacon bits
• mild cheddar cheese, shredded
• 1/2 cup sour cream
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 Tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
• salt and pepper to taste

Bake or microwave your potatoes until they’re tender.  Slice the potatoes longways about half an inch thick.  You should get about two to three skins per potato depending upon the size of your potato.  Top with desired amount of cheese and bacon and place in the oven on 350F for about 8 to 10 minutes or until the cheese is well melted.

While the potatoes are baking, mix sour cream, garlic powder, and parsley in a small dish.  Add salt and pepper to taste.

Place a dollop of sour cream on each potato skin when they’re done.  Eat as it or dip it in your favorite ranch dressing!

This is the actual recipe inspired by Inglourious Basterds for our series of 2010 Oscar Party Dishes.

You can take the easy way on this one and stop by your local French bakery and pick up a batard loaf, or live adventurously and make your own.

Starter:

• 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
• 2/3 cup warm water
• a pinch of salt
• 1/8 tsp active dry yeast

Dough

• 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
• 1 cup water
• 1/2  Tbsp salt
• 1/4 tsp active dry yeast

Begin by adding the starter yeast into the warm water slowly.  Once it is sufficiently mixed, pour into the flour and salt in a large bowl.  Mix, cover, and allow to sit overnight.

Sometime the next day, mix all the dough ingredients in a seperate bowl.  Break the starter dough into pieces and mix into the dough mixture.  Pound and fold the dough for serveral minutes until it is thoroughly mixed.  Place in a greased bowl and allow to rise for 1 hour.  Remove dough and fold it a few times, then let rise for 1 hour.  Repeat.  Remove the dough and roll into a wide rounded oval.  Allow to rise for an additional hour.  Place a couple of shallow slices across the top of the loaf before putting it into a preheated 450 degree oven.  Place a  baking dish of water underneath to even some of the baking.  Bake for 20 minutes, then rotate the loaf 180 degrees, and bake an additional 20 minutes.  Serve with your favorite, German, French, or Russian cheeses.

• Cotton candy

For those of you busy jet-setting around the world, this dish is best created by stopping by your local fair grounds or farmer’s market and purchasing cotton candy directly.  Pull off a nice round chunk of it and place it in a cup of appropriate size.  We suggest using 2 oz size for the right portion.  If, however, your either have the homemade cotton candy machine you got when you were a kid or you have access to an industrial cotton candy machine by all means make your own cotton candy.  We, at Movie-Recipes.com, do not and in lieu of the 10 Best Picture nominations are taking the easy road with this dish by purchasing pre-made cotton candy.

• 2 lbs edamame
• 1/2 cup water
• 2 Tbsp sea salt
• soy sauce

Place edamame and water in large pan over medium-high heat and cover.  Allow to steam for 7-8 minutes then remove from heat and drain remaining water.  Sprinkle with sea salt and serve with a side of soy sauce.
